Pros

Loyal and collaborative colleagues Great central location Strong corporate partnerships

Cons

The culture described versus the one which colleagues experience is polarised, lacking in authenticity and integrity, The People and Development team have had a turbulent time over the past few years with high attrition both voluntary and involuntary, There is minimal respect for those who do the work and disproportionate investment in leadership. The current Senior Leadership team claim to be open to feedback but the reality is, should this be less than favourable, there is blame placed and an implication that those who were open and honest are 'trouble makers' creating a lack of phycological safety. There is an absence of a clear and unified direction or purpose, patchy and inconsistent communication and closed conversations at the top with confusing and erratic messages for those in the department. Colleagues who have demonstrated dedication, resilience and gone over and above can go from being regarded as 'talent' to being seen as 'blockers' overnight creating uncertainty and anxiety for the individuals themselves and those who work alongside them. Its become extremely hierarchical with structural changes made on a whim. I am unsure if the CEO or the Board are aware of this toxic culture, there is such a disconnect between what is said versus what is experienced.

Pros

Throughout my joining journey, the Talent Acquisition Partner and wider HR team were a great support - providing prompt and helpful responses to any queries, a real insight to the culture within Nottingham Building Society. Upon joining, my kit was quickly sorted with no issue and I was gifted a welcome pack of 'merch' - a nice perk when joining any company. The joining journey was one of the smoothest I have encountered in my 15 year career within Financial Services. Senior leadership had also taken the time to set up 1-2-1 intros with stakeholders across the organisation which were loaded into my diary the first time I logged on - a great help in building my network across the firm!

Cons

No negatives at all so far.

Pros

The people genuinely care about NBS' mission, other colleagues and our customers. The culture is the best I've experienced. The pay and benefits structure compares reasonably well for other companies in the East Midlands. Working arrangements are generally very flexible. Leaders are empowered to make decisions without micromanagement and lengthy escalations. The onboarding process was smooth and the recruitment team especially are such powerful champions for NBS. Really interesting, edgy, purpose-drive and commercially sound strategy. My role is diverse and will grow as the society grows, which keeps things interesting. Recruitment over the last 2/3 years has brought some genuinely exceptional talent into the business.

Cons

As NBS goes through another wave of change, with many new faces onboard, how management leads will be critically important to NBS' success. Colleagues generally work very hard and it's a particularly busy period for the society - so how management seeks to bring colleagues along with them on the journey will determine how well NBS performs.
