Cons

When choosing to work for an agency it is imperative that one has as much information as possible to determine if the agency aligns with their ideals. After moving to a management position it was very clear to me that things were completely off. On the surface, NCCI, presents itself as a beacon of change dedicated to the lives of the underserved however you come to find out that this is at a cost; the staff. NCCI is ripe with nepotism, bloated egos, and a high school "mean girl" dynamic encouraged and reinforced by "upper management". Emboldened by title and drunk on the "power" it holds, petty antics and malicious speech resounds regularly throughout the office. This of course goes overlooked as it is likely at the hand of one of the higher ups. You could go to human resources with any concerns however the neutral body of the agency is also the the child of another higher up who can often be seen snickering and conspiring with the second. Any write ups that primary assailant may receive are frivolous acts of appeasement to the staff because it means absolutley nothing. There will be no real consequences because you will be frequently reminded that this person is protected. The human resources departments professional and personal circumstances present a definite conflict of interest. It quickly becomes clear that HR department is that of a puppet to alleviate duties but also implement rules that reinforce bad behavior. This is particularly true for staff who are routinely victims of a malicious critique that is erroneously labeled as "constructive criticism". I'm most certain that they don't know the difference because executive management is encouraged to use condescending and demeaning tones with staff to drive home a message. (Ex. Can you read!? Well I can't tell.) Members of the executive team frequently talk about past and present employees by name and often laugh about the concerns prior to their departure. Also, be mindful of the amount of personal information shared as messiness is a way of life. Attempts at clinical assessments of others in the office are frequent and you will become a hot topic amongst "execs". Keep in mind that this place is not a mental health agency and you are not a client. While they choose to be confused by their high turnover rate and low office morale they refuse to look inward at the dynamic they choose to create. During staff meetings they would all but threaten you for feedback on office concerns and then blame the staff for no changes because they didn't speak up. Projecting to staff throughout the office that "they"ll get rid of ya'll before they get rid of me" does little for retention. For one of these upper level persons feeding the ego with compliments and maintaining unwavering tones can go a long way as they attempt to assess others for a superior advantage constantly. Keep them on their toes. Feed just enough but never too much because this person lacks the ability to receive criticism, practice introspection, take responsibility, admit when they are wrong, or apologize with a modicum of sincerity. Other things to consider, you are required to go to the office daily, see a maximum of 3 people per day, attend and complete 25 three to four hour trainings during your 120 day probation in conjunction with the 2 to 4 hour meetings that occur 2 to 3 times a week (this does not include the before mentioned 25 trainings that you must find time to fit in) Due to poor retention you will likely have several transfer cases with varying, degrees of difficulty making all of those other things taxing if not impossible. You will be told that time management is key however clearly there is not enough time in the day or month, for that matter. The office is often open until the late hours. Too often people are still in the office well past 7 and on occasion 10/11pm to avoid email blasts containing threats of suspension without pay and write-ups. People are still working evenings and weekends to meet an insane list of deadlines with overlapping information. Also, you will be financially responsible for the cost of clearances (exceeds $100 out of your pocket prior to start) and maintenance of those clearances provided you actually stay that long (highly unlikely). This is an extremely toxic work environment. Do not be surprised if positive reviews are not planted by executive staff of those that they trust in their fold. Sadly, they have been able to remain afloat for years and this has been accepted as standard practice.

Management is pretty transparent with staff. A lot of open communication between staff. The place can be fun inspire of stress due to deadlines requirements.

Constant change not sure who to blame. It could be poor management or different funders:but at least every other month there is a change. High pressure to be flexible and understanding of constant change, A lot of paperwork. I do mean a lot. At times management demands on meeting all the changes and deadline can be a bit much
