Pros

You will make a new family with your team, who will support you as much as they can. You will take on investigations which will have a real and profound outcome to the victims involved. You will have a sense of accomplishment when you know you've made someone else's life better.

Cons

Mentally and physically exhausting at times. Your sleep pattern will be ruined. You'll miss birthdays, Xmas and have to schedule events weeks/months in advance. Your mental health will be strained and can cause family problems.

Pros

- Getting paid, job security

Cons

-I worked for Norfolk Constabulary for over eight years. I had numerous supervisors in that time. The majority of which were poor managers who had been promoted purely because the job needs supervisors not necessarily getting the right people in the right roles. I have had numerous supervisors say to me over the years that one of the main reasons they had become a supervisor was because they wanted to boss people about referring to lower ranked colleagues. There is no point going to management with any issues as they will not deal with problems you bring to them. - Newer officers are badly trained and lack experience and enthusiasm to proactively investigate. Instead there is a culture of trying to close off investigations at the earliest opportunity even when there is evidence to take a different course of action. - There is no mental health support and if you are referred to occupational health you will join a length queue and it is likely that they just won't speak to you at all. - If you resign there is no contact from anyone in SLT. Again this goes back to just being a number that the force does not care about. - A lot of internal opportunities, job vacancies, promotional opportunities seem to be if your face fits, you come from an upper class background or your part of the boys club. - I would not recommend Norfolk Constabulary as an employer.
