Pros

Small company so it's easy to know all employees, closer access to management, located near DTLA, easy to own a project and take lead because there's so much work that needs to be done

Cons

Management is constantly changing procedures and strategy without notifying employees. This causes ongoing confusion and missing deadlines and wasting money. Lots of unprofessionalism from management, will yell at and discipline employees in front of other employees. There is little concern for employees work experience or comfort: AC breaks down in summer, heater breaks in winter, and they take forever to fix it causing for an uncomfortable and unbearable work environment. Office environment and furniture is outdated and in disarray. An increasing number of employees hired at this company are relatives of the management, so as an employee you will always be outnumbered as they take each others side (this is also how they're able to give themselves 5 stars on Glassdoor.) This also leaves little to no room for career advancement within the company. Terrible vacation policy of only one week which doesn't even begin accruing until AFTER you have completed one entire year of work without any vacation days (industry standard's bare minimum is 2 weeks after 3-month probation.)

Pros

Norchem is a great company to work for overall! Work-life balance is excellent and the office is in a central location near DTLA. Strong points about working here are access to management and support for employee growth. There are many areas where you can take ownership over any process. As long as you prove yourself as a reliable person, autonomy is great here. However, you are expected to take initiative and own your position which can be challenging if you aren’t prepared. Management is always looking for ways to improve Norchem, be it process, workflow, culture, etc., and they are very responsive to new suggestions. Regarding favoritism for family members, this is simply not true. Most of Norchem’s senior employees who have been with the company for a long time are not relatives of the owners. Those who dedicate their time and energy to the company are treated like family.

Cons

Workload can be heavy at times and more employee training is needed for certain positions. There is very little margin for error so if you mess up, you have to own your mistake and work to improve. Those looking for a lax job to settle in and relax for 8 hours, do not bother working here. Only employees serious about working here end up staying in the long run.
