Pros

* The culture at Niantic is great. There is a lot of trust from management that people just do their job and are self-directed. Not a lot of micro-management which is great. Employees repay that trust by taking ownership and pride in the work * Working from home occasionally is allowed * Everyone is quite talented at their job and a pleasure to work with. The recruiters do a good job of filtering candidates * Work life balance is encouraged from management. Some people do work a lot but are not heavily pressured into doing so by management * There is a big culture of sharing knowledge between engineers. A lot of great technical talks on a weekly basis * Most diverse set of employees I've seen at any software company that I have worked at * Very inclusive atmosphere. I feel like I can talk to everyone and be welcomed * A lot of social events * Management communicates very transparently about their decisions and what's going on at higher levels. Regular Q&A occurs where anonymous questions are encouraged and can lead to them answering challenging questions * Rewarding to work at a place that is undeniably making a positive impact on the world. Employees and management are sincere about this objective.

Cons

* Communication between teams/studios is not great. Culture can change a lot depending on which team/studio you are on. Hard to avoid with big company though to be fair * Some of the teams do not get enough time allocated to pay down technical debt and instead are forced to constantly develop new features instead. Also somewhat par for the course though * Too many meetings

Pros

Niantic has a unique mission and works on products that blend technology, gaming, community, and real-world exploration. The people are generally smart, passionate, and collaborative, and there are opportunities to work on creative projects with global impact. The company also offers a good learning environment for those interested in gaming, AR, live operations, and location-based products.

Cons

Priorities can shift frequently, which sometimes makes it difficult for teams to stay focused or understand how their work connects to the broader company strategy. Communication from leadership could be clearer, especially during periods of change. Some processes feel reactive rather than proactive, and cross-functional alignment can vary depending on the team.
