Pros

The managers were approachable and relatively flexible. (Upon request, I was able to work from home with relative frequency.) The scientific team was competent and knowledgable.

Cons

The structured training was minimal, though questions were answered when asked. The work was tedious, but this was the nature of the work (basically data entry, but requiring a high level of scientific literacy and understanding.)

Pros

Collaborate with knowledgeable junior and senior scientists in an industry that has an impact on human health. Enjoy going to work. The environment is energetic and easy going. Gain skill that will help you find career opportunities in the genomics industry. Research clinical genetic studies and sometimes learn about exciting rapid developments in a variety of human disease. Work independently with a flexible schedule.

Cons

If you don't have a masters or P.H.D. (and in some cases even if you do) the very rare, longterm career opportunities tend to pay salaries that are below average for the required degree. If you only have a B.S. see this job as a paid internship (if you see it that way this is actually not a con). Though senior management is very friendly and easy going they are rarely straight forward. It is uncomfortable discuss performance reviews and compensation. There is no schedule for payroll for non-employees so you will be pleasantly surprised every 2-4 weeks!
