Pros

Company cars are nice, employees are friendly, beer on friday (only in muskegon)

Cons

Mandatory uniforms, even for veteran IT consultants. I know this might be kind of hard to nit pick at but I have a nice wardrobe of shirts and slacks, Next IT makes you wear their branded Polo shirts like you work in Geek squad or as a mechanic. These guys must have been burned bad at some point. Everything is tracked and there is no trust. When trying to get a USB drive for a project I was working on I kept being given these 500mb drives. Benefits are complete crap. It's hard to justify why too. They say they are small, yet they have a ton of offices and employees, including the owners family. The real reason their junk? The owners building a nice big house on the lake, that and he just got back from his vacation down in the bahamas or something. They cut corners and it's ridiculous. Typical insurance from any other company was about $4000 a year, here it was $14,000 for a family. Just not right. Then there is vacation time. If you want to take time off you have to put in 90 or 60 days notice and it is strictly enforced. I can't remember exactly how long, but it was enough to make me sick about it. Another reviewer said not to come here unless you need employment for a short time/fast. I agree 100% with that statement. If you're a veteran and want to work on something that will leave you proud, with people that understand having a family or a normal life, then do not work here. If you're 21 and just got out of college, this might be the place for you for a year or two until you can move onto... anything else. When I started, the guy that was "training" me had been there for less than 6 months. The other tech that I was working with had been there for 3 weeks. With the high turn over rate and lack of experienced techs, you jump into completely wild and off the wall roundabout broken solutions that you need to fix. Never have I seen a company that "managed" an environment have such issues within the own environment that they set up. Completely insane and a stain on the value that good MSP's can bring to the table.

Next I.T. Response

Thank you for your input. I am very proud of my company and the people that work for me so it hurts that anyone would characterize us in this way. We work hard to be a professional company. I am sorry that it didn't work out for you.

Pros

It can be difficult to get started in an I.T. career right out of college. Next I.T. is somewhat lax on their hiring, which is a pro for inexperienced individuals that want the chance to prove themselves. This helped me get started in my career. Everyone that works for the company is extremely helpful.

Cons

I've heard negative comments about the stress of working on the help desk, but I did not experience any issues. Show up on time, wear your uniform, get your work done, and leave. Be patient with the customers and understand their frustrations. Stay cool in stressful situations. As long as you're doing those things, help desk is fine.
