Pros

- When I worked there, they were forming good development practices - People are generally ok, with some exceptions

Cons

The actual company culture is very isolating. Everyone who was there was there because they were friends with or knew someone who already worked there. There were only three people who were hired without any previous relationship. As far as I know, all three of those people are gone. Like they will act nice, but you really can’t compete with these people who have long time ties to each other in such a small organization. For example, one of the long time people freely used racial slurs in front of the CTO and myself. CTO didn’t bat an eye. I had to be the one to tell this other employee to cool it on the “color commentary”. So if you are one of the long time folks, you are given a WIDE latitude. Also know that there is no room for advancement. The core people — the ones that have been there for a while/have previous personal relationships with management — will have their pick of positions . If you want to work here, treat it as a transition stage.

Thank you for sharing this. I messed up. I remember this incident and I was extremely uncomfortable, and did not address the racial slur that came up. That was absolutely not OK and I’ve committed to doing better, taking a hard stance on issues that I avoided before. This does not make up for the damage caused and I’m sorry. I hear you on the core group sentiment and am proud of the improvements we have made in the past two years with hiring and onboarding. We’ve rebuilt our approach to be more inclusive, rigorous, informed by bias training, and pull in diverse perspectives from across the company. I wish we were this deliberate sooner and I’m glad we’re learning from our mistakes now. We have had over a dozen new team members join in the last year and we have been working hard to ensure everyone has an opportunity to contribute and make an impact from their first day. Many of the improvements we’ve made have resulted from these teammates, regardless of their tenure. -Martin Lukac, CTO and Founder

Pros

There are no pros to working here

Cons

If you're considering joining Nexleaf, think twice! Prospective funders should do thorough research and connect with actual staff, not just the leadership PR machine. With one of the highest turnover rates, Nexleaf seems to view talent as easily replaceable, disregarding the invaluable knowledge departing staff take with them. The organization lacks structure, everyone claims decision-making authority, and the loudest (and usually not very good at their jobs) voices steer its direction. Despite preaching impact, Nexleaf sells fairy tales. It's time for the board to see through the these blatant figment of imagination, replace the CEO, or risk the organization digging its own grave.
