Great editorial gut and journalistic ethics

not a con but something to get use to, a constantly changing environment

They take chances on employees who are just starting out since they have so many part-time positions available, making it a great employer for college students or someone needing more experience. They are very different from everyone else and doing something remarkable in the digital news industry. It seems like the rest of the industry also loves Newsy; they have many other partnerships with other companies. Everyone is very friendly and willing to help or teach you something.

I feel like they have strayed immensely from their original mission. It's now more of a commentary and Buzzfeed-type news outlet verses one that highlights differences in reporting between other media outlets. Management and communication is terrible. No one talks to each other about employees' schedules or job performance. I often received mixed feedback from managers about my work during both the regular work shift and voluntary feedback sessions, so I was often confused about whether I needed to improve on something or stick to what I was doing. My stories were assigned to me by editorial leads who sometimes told me what to focus on or how to angle the story, yet I'd be criticized for writing it that way by other managers during script reviews. What's expected out of employees to succeed or advance in the company is also never communicated. At times, it felt cliquey and that I didn't matter. Despite the company being small, the owner/president never made an effort to talk or introduce himself to any new faces and would only shoot the breeze with other managers.
