Pros

- Coworkers are easy to get along with and mostly push themselves to keep from burdening others. - Many people have been around for years, which makes them invaluable resources and fantastic mentors, even when they're not trying to be one.

Cons

- Career growth has been halted for years as the company freezes hiring and loses their best employees due to refusal to promote. - Regular layoffs with no real justification, which run counter to the company's stated strategy. - Pay is not competitive. - Understaffing leads to overworking; most in my department are doing 2+ people's jobs due to layoffs and refusal to backfill vacant roles. - Deadlines are overly aggressive with little consideration given to the consequences of a shoddy launch. - Union busting efforts and refusal to cooperate during contract negotiations with the tech guild. - Ratings may seem overly harsh but they reflect my true sentiments. The Times was once a great place to work. It has not been for years. - At its best, management is sympathetic. Most are apathetic. Some are actively and aggressively awful to employees and have no empathy - arguably sociopathic

Pros

Challenging and rewarding work. You'll work in an environment that publishes the news everyday, if you are excited about helping people learn more about the world, you'll love it here. Good benefits, hybrid work, and really smart coworkers.

Cons

Does not pay like big tech but as an IC you'll be part of union with job protections
