Pros

-smart colleagues -vibrant slack community -truly top-notch reporting -access to the historically privileged catalog of NYT resources

Cons

Vision: Leadership has deviated from NYT's stated mission of 'helping people understand the world' to 'keeping as many eyes on the app as possible.' This dogma doesn't take long to trickle down with the help of the Sulzberger inner circle working in various parts of the organization. Operations: While many upper managers/department preach the buzzy maxims of a work-life balance, self health, progressive values, etc etc, the walk is not walked. Unhealthy behaviors are rewarded. People (women; usually women of color) are underpaid and strung out beyond belief. Communication is a nightmare. Official org structures are rarely honored. Interpersonal politics are dumb and dirty.

Pros

Challenging and rewarding work. You'll work in an environment that publishes the news everyday, if you are excited about helping people learn more about the world, you'll love it here. Good benefits, hybrid work, and really smart coworkers.

Cons

Does not pay like big tech but as an IC you'll be part of union with job protections
