There's a glass ceiling for non-diverse news assistants. - News Assistant New York Times Employee Review

Pros

It was a fun place to work with lots of intelligent people.

Cons

If you are white and male you will not be promoted unless you plead gay or some other minority. In the past there was a bias that favored straight white males over minorities and now there's an (over)correction. No matter how good my work was, or how praised it was I would always lose a promotion to someone from a more diverse background. I have a friend who is gay, but appears straight and he was locked as well. However, if you are black and female, strap n that rocket pack, because you are going straight to the moon!

Pros

Challenging and rewarding work. You'll work in an environment that publishes the news everyday, if you are excited about helping people learn more about the world, you'll love it here. Good benefits, hybrid work, and really smart coworkers.

Cons

Does not pay like big tech but as an IC you'll be part of union with job protections
