Great employees, bad management - Project Manager NeuroRx Research Employee Review

Pros

Most of the employees are fun, smart and easy to get along with, the Project Managers often socialize after hours and get along well with each other. The owner and CEO of the company is a very nice man, and very highly regarded in the company and industry.

Cons

The senior management is disrespectful to the employees. The Project Managers are overworked and under appreciated, and management often talks about them behind their backs. When we first start, we're told that the work load is substantial, but that we'll get support from our colleagues and a lot of training to help benefit our careers. What really happens is that we often get work dumped on us as colleagues are sick (burnt out), or quit. This means that we often have to work long hours to stay caught up. Also, our health benefits were changed on us, costing us more (and now no dental) and we now have to pay for it if we want it or not. No other CRO would consider Project Manager jobs what the company calls them, the positions in the company are all badly named and don't align with the industry. This makes it difficult finding work elsewhere.

Pros

No prior clinical trial experience needed. Great way to be introduced into the clinical trial environment. Colleagues for the most part were kind. Very diverse team.

Cons

However, the probation period is 6 months. The work load is a lot for an entry level position, and for the salary only being 53K/year. Some employees who did not love in Montreal were still expected to come to the office once a week, and the company would not even cover the expense. Company expenses should be covered by rhetorical employer. Also, audit season was always a mess. People worked overtime a lot, and they were not compensated for such.

Pros

Using my medical background and being surrounded by medical colleagues who are all nice people (unfortunately, it is not a united group and, despite the same disappointments, they do not have the courage to demand their rights for fear of losing their jobs)

Cons

My experience here has been deeply disappointing. The company employs immigrant medical doctors as MRI Readers, yet it sadly undervalues and underpays us. Despite the dedicated service we provide, there is no system in place for performance evaluations or salary raises. Furthermore, there is no active HR department to address our concerns, leaving us without a channel to seek redress or support. Management is notably disorganized, providing no guidance or respect to employees. Overtime work, when required, is unpaid, which adds to the sense of exploitation, akin to modern-day slavery. Our department has no Internet access although all other departments have (I heard that it used to be one, but, as punishment for a colleague who overuse it, now it is still forbidden for us). Our department has two bosses and they both have no leadership and never support us. There is no communication and transparency between the departments and a lot of workplace gossip. The office is situated in a basement without windows, creating an environment that feels oppressive and discouraging rather than welcoming and professional.
