The experience at Netstar highlighted several organisational challenges that significantly impact both employees and customers. The workplace culture lacks cohesion and genuine employee support, which often results in low morale. Role clarity is a major issue — responsibilities are not well-defined, leading to confusion and inefficiency across teams. Leadership direction also needs improvement. Management often appears disconnected from day-to-day realities, and decision-making lacks structure and consistency. These gaps not only affect internal teams but have also been reflected in increasing customer dissatisfaction.

It’s extremely clear that the company’s management style is heavily influenced by the traditional South African corporate approach. Managers set unrealistically high expectations that continually increase often to a level that’s simply not achievable. When employees inevitably fall short, management doesn’t respond with training, support, or constructive feedback. Instead, they resort to intense micromanagement, mistakenly believing this will improve productivity. Unsurprisingly, this only breeds frustration and dissatisfaction among employees. As a result, staff turnover is alarmingly high it’s common to see five or more employees leaving each month from a team of around 50–60. With so many people leaving, processes, roles, and communication quickly become disorganized and unclear. Within my first year, I witnessed nearly every department lose around 80% of its team. The company’s overall direction is also confusing. There’s no clear unique selling point (USP) or niche market focus, making it difficult for sales teams to close deals effectively. On top of that, the company is extremely stingy with salary increases. Whether you’ve worked there for one year or five, don’t expect a meaningful raise at best, you might see a 1–3% bump on an already subpar salary. Whilst, writing this I can almost gurantee this 'approach' will not change, lol.
