Pros

Well-stocked pantry for breakfast and lunch. "Cool" office with fish tanks, games, massage chair, etc. Some employees are genuine and kind. They actually care about what they do and the clients they serve. It's a great mission -- helping non-profits do what they do. Pay is average/slightly above average for tech. There seems to be some culture, although you must fit the leftist mold. Jeff seems to be a genuinely nice guy. So does Tim.

Cons

Where to begin... There is little to no on-boarding process. Sometimes product training takes weeks to begin. There are few checks and balances for management. Because it's a small company, many are promoted to positions they really shouldn't be in. This leaves them overwhelmed or incompetent in fulfilling their duties. Upper management is either unaware, too disorganized, or too busy themselves to fully monitor the issue. My manager blatantly plagiarized my work. I was also lied to multiple times by upper management. A lot of the time, you are thrown into projects and have to fend for yourself. This typically does not work well for new hires (go figure), and they end up annoying their managers with questions. (See above: "little to no on-boarding" ) I am all for taking ownership of your work and your career, but there were times when I was given no context for a project and asked to complete it on a hard deadline with very little background information. If you are the type of employee that enjoys critical feedback, please go work elsewhere. You will not receive any applicable feedback here. This can be frustrating as you will think a project is finished because, I mean, no critical feedback, only to deliver it to your superiors who make you completely redo it. It's also tough because there are, as they say, too many cooks in kitchen. Because processes are constantly changing, you'll have to get a sign off from multiple people who all have a different idea how things should be done. On that note, for such a small company, there is hardly any communication between departments. This can be extremely frustrating, given that new product is rolled out regularly. Management is disorganized and does not communicate top-down. Employees are extremely pretentious when it comes to their clients. It's not unusual to hear them speaking derisively of a pro-life clinic or a church. Clients with a faith-based mission are made fun of regularly. A lot of power is given to people who, honestly, haven't earned it in their career or in the company. It's a bit mind-boggling how some people with very little experience call such big shots. Really nowhere to go, career wise, unless you are in the "in" crowd. Location is in the middle of a neighborhood. You'll have to drive for lunch most likely, especially in the winter. The longer you work here, the more your skill-set is less applicable to other jobs.

NeonCRM Response

Dear prospective candidate: I hope this review doesn’t dampen your interest in our company and the amazing work we’re doing to help nonprofit organizations. It’s unfair and frankly impossible to assess a company fairly if you were a part of it for less than a month. Still, I’d like to address the statements made and hopefully appease any fears you may have about working here. It’s a fantastic place to work. Should you still have concerns after reading my response, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me. -Vera <<<<<“There is little to no on-boarding process.” Onboarding takes anywhere between one to three months to complete, depending on the position. You will work with a dedicated trainer to learn the product, and your supervisor will oversee your job training. Every department has a job training plan. If your position requires product training, you will begin that within a week of your start date. Our talented Training & Implementation Specialist has designed an online product training curriculum that will help you learn NeonCRM within two weeks. The training plans are constantly updated based on changing business operations, product releases and new hire feedback. <<<<<“There are few checks and balances for management.” Our management team is the heart and soul of the company. Each one has earned their position based on the quality of their work, their positive impact on the company, and their ability to lead with excellence. But they don’t just excel at their job, they genuinely care about their team members and are their biggest advocates. Your supervisor will push you beyond your comfort zone to achieve bigger goals, they will give you the feedback you need to hear, and they will facilitate your development and help open doors if you show the necessary work ethic and drive. Managers are held to extremely high performance standards and are accountable for the performance of their entire department. If something doesn’t go well, their supervisor, the GM, and even HR might step in to resolve the issue. It’s one of the toughest jobs in our company, and it certainly earns them the right to have a lot of autonomy to create and experiment. <<<<<“My manager blatantly plagiarized my work. I was also lied to multiple times by upper management.” Plagiarism and lying are not tolerated at NeonCRM. As head of HR, I have never received such a complaint from anyone in our company and, therefore, cannot address these statements. <<<<<“A lot of the time, you are thrown into projects and have to fend for yourself.” Every position is different. Account Executives, for example, won’t start taking leads until they’ve completed product training, job training and a successful mock demo (about 4-6 weeks from their hire date). An experienced WordPress Designer, on the other hand, should be able to build a website without much guidance. <<<<<“If you are the type of employee that enjoys critical feedback, please go work elsewhere.” We THRIVE on feedback. You will receive feedback during regular check-ins with your supervisor and through more formal performance assessments. We also request peer feedback on a quarterly basis. The best employees at Neon ask for feedback on their work and appreciate brutal honesty. And it works both ways - employees have multiple channels by which to give feedback to leadership. <<<<<“It's also tough because there are, as they say, too many cooks in kitchen. There is hardly any communication between departments.” Out of 71 employees, we have 5 managers and 4 directors. The management unit is close-knit and collaborative. They keep each other informed about product releases and other important changes. If someone happens to forget to share, they’re quick to address that with each other. The Executive Team communicates with Directors and Managers on specific projects. We have a quarterly All-Hands Meeting to discuss the company’s direction and current initiatives. On a monthly basis, we publish a newsletter that includes department updates, executive updates, and a section to recognize staff promotions and achievements. <<<<<“Clients with a faith-based mission are made fun of regularly.” I have no way to know if this statement is true as no complaints have ever been filed with HR. Faith-based clients make up a large part of our business and we are proud to serve them. <<<<<“You'll have to drive for lunch most likely, especially in the winter.” We are surrounded by delicious restaurants, all within walking distance. Employees frequently step out for lunch. If you don’t feel like walking or don’t have the time, you can always help yourself to the lunch foods in the fridge and pantry.

Pros

- Every day that I show up to work, I know that I'm making a difference. This is the only job I've ever had that allows me to combine my love of nonprofits, technology, and business. For the first time, I'm fulfilled. - I work with a team of managers who always put the needs of their team above their own. Running a successful department is important, but so is having a team of happy employees who enjoy coming to work every day. I'm proud to work with colleagues who are ethical, smart, hardworking, and who genuinely care about others. - We have a rockstar executive team: Michael Farb, Stuart Lodge, Jordan Phelps, Misty Novich. They get the culture and they care about employees. I consider it a privilege to have them as our leaders. - We work super hard at Neon, and I can't tell you how much I appreciate all the fun events the Social Committee puts together for us. The office is always decorated for the holidays and we celebrate pretty much everything. I'm talking Halloween costume runway show, Easter egg hunt, chili contest, cookie contest, office beach day every June, pajama day following our big company holiday party, and the list goes on. - Fully stocked kitchen, but it's not about the food. We genuinely all like each other. The kitchen is packed in the morning and at lunchtime.

Cons

Merging with other companies can be messy but the leadership team keeps us up-to-date and is honest when they don't have the answer to something. I'd rather a CEO tell me "I don't know yet" than make something up. The benefits plan is robust (medical, dental, vision, STD, LTD, life insurance). I hope the company can increase the employer contribution in the future.

Pros

*Employees-the people here (including senior management) truly want you to be happy and succeed. Part of this is probably the fact that 90% of the staff come from nonprofit backgrounds. Employees care about each other, the clients and the solutions (NeonCRM, Neon Web Studio). *Perks-volunteer days, stocked kitchen, casual dress, beer o'clock, yoga in office, etc. *Growth-the company has more than doubled in two years and they continue to grow. This means opportunities to move into other departments and helping new employees become acquainted. *Effort is awarded. If you try your best to meet or exceed your goals, you will likely succeed here. Don't be afraid to ask questions or take initiative. As a person that loves multi-tasking, I have enjoyed taking on new projects and tasks.

Cons

*Planning & Processes-although this is partly attributed to growth, they need to continue to work on set processes in the sales department (onboarding, tasks, transitions). Company-wide changes and email campaigns need to be planned and discussed more than a week ahead of time. This allows each department to adequately prepare. *Compensation is slightly lower than industry standard, but you will be rewarded annually if they see the results.
