Pros

- Pay is slightly, very slightly, above average. At least not below average. - Work that positively impacts small non-profits

Cons

- "Required" company outings that, for some reason, a lot of people ditch while others are forced to go. Overall, the whole thing doesn't make sense. - People seem to have a rather pretentious mentality due to the fact that we work with non-profits. Not good - Culture seems to require people to put a "nice" face on, but overall, I don't feel valued and respected... - Not a lot of career development. Not many people are promoted, or if they are, just given a slightly nicer title with no added responsibilities or skills to show for such promotion. - Location is not that great, pretty far outside the city and not easily accessible - Unprepared team members. A lot of the new hires and existing people they bring in are extremely unqualified. Most of our time is spent teaching new people how to do their jobs rather than actually getting time to do the jobs that need to be done. Honestly, for a company our size, recruiting should probably be done by an outside staffing agency to ensure top notch results and to hold people accountable.

I was disheartened to read your review, since you know how hard we work to provide a great workplace, benefits, and perks. I don’t believe your review is an honest reflection of our company. We have a close-knit culture, a genuine dedication to constantly improve, and are very open to feedback from staff. I invite you to speak with me, your manager or an executive about what you perceive as weaknesses of our company. I will address your cons below. - "Required" company outings... Company outings are never required but highly encouraged so that staff can spend quality time together outside of the office. We always close a few hours early so as not to take up too much of your personal time. Every event has been well attended - bowling, beach day, boat tour through the city - and staff really look forward to these opportunities to kick back and have fun. - People seem to have a rather pretentious mentality due to the fact that we work with non-profits What you may interpret as pretentiousness others see as PRIDE. We take great pride in helping over 2500 nonprofit organizations with our products and professional services. Over 85% of our staff come from a nonprofit background and have a passion for giving back and serving others. Every person I interview wants to work here because of our positive social mission. - Culture seems to require people to put a "nice" face on, but overall, I don't feel valued and respected... In the most recent staff assessment, all of our employees reported feeling valued. No one (including you) reported feeling undervalued. If anything has changed in the past few weeks, I would love to discuss that with you. I have worked at Neon for over three and half years and can assure you that no one is required to put a nice face on, including me. We have a very honest culture and issues can be reported through many channels – management, executives, HR, anonymous surveys. - Not a lot of career development. Not many people are promoted, or if they are, just given a slightly nicer title with no added responsibilities or skills to show for such promotion. Of 43 employees, 4 are executives and 8 are managers. In the past 12 months alone, we’ve promoted 12 people. Promotions are earned and come with more responsibilities and a generous increase in pay. Additionally, 4 employees have asked to take on a new challenge (and role) within the company this year, and we have been able to honor their request. - Location is not that great, pretty far outside the city and not easily accessible The CTA and Metra run close to our office, and almost half of our employees take advantage of our Ventra Benefits Program. The majority of our staff live near the area and bike, walk or take public transportation. A handful drive to work. Moreover, our location has not affected our ability to attract top talent to the company. - Unprepared team members. A lot of the new hires and existing people they bring in are extremely unqualified… We have a thorough hiring process that includes, at a minimum, three interviews. Some positions require a portfolio or pre-interview assignment as well as an onsite assignment. Thanks to our robust onboarding program and exceptional trainers, most of our hires are able to complete training and perform their job within one month of starting. It takes time and dedication to master multiple products and learn a multitude of department workflows. Plus with monthly releases, there is always something new to learn.

Pros

- Every day that I show up to work, I know that I'm making a difference. This is the only job I've ever had that allows me to combine my love of nonprofits, technology, and business. For the first time, I'm fulfilled. - I work with a team of managers who always put the needs of their team above their own. Running a successful department is important, but so is having a team of happy employees who enjoy coming to work every day. I'm proud to work with colleagues who are ethical, smart, hardworking, and who genuinely care about others. - We have a rockstar executive team: Michael Farb, Stuart Lodge, Jordan Phelps, Misty Novich. They get the culture and they care about employees. I consider it a privilege to have them as our leaders. - We work super hard at Neon, and I can't tell you how much I appreciate all the fun events the Social Committee puts together for us. The office is always decorated for the holidays and we celebrate pretty much everything. I'm talking Halloween costume runway show, Easter egg hunt, chili contest, cookie contest, office beach day every June, pajama day following our big company holiday party, and the list goes on. - Fully stocked kitchen, but it's not about the food. We genuinely all like each other. The kitchen is packed in the morning and at lunchtime.

Cons

Merging with other companies can be messy but the leadership team keeps us up-to-date and is honest when they don't have the answer to something. I'd rather a CEO tell me "I don't know yet" than make something up. The benefits plan is robust (medical, dental, vision, STD, LTD, life insurance). I hope the company can increase the employer contribution in the future.

Pros

*Employees-the people here (including senior management) truly want you to be happy and succeed. Part of this is probably the fact that 90% of the staff come from nonprofit backgrounds. Employees care about each other, the clients and the solutions (NeonCRM, Neon Web Studio). *Perks-volunteer days, stocked kitchen, casual dress, beer o'clock, yoga in office, etc. *Growth-the company has more than doubled in two years and they continue to grow. This means opportunities to move into other departments and helping new employees become acquainted. *Effort is awarded. If you try your best to meet or exceed your goals, you will likely succeed here. Don't be afraid to ask questions or take initiative. As a person that loves multi-tasking, I have enjoyed taking on new projects and tasks.

Cons

*Planning & Processes-although this is partly attributed to growth, they need to continue to work on set processes in the sales department (onboarding, tasks, transitions). Company-wide changes and email campaigns need to be planned and discussed more than a week ahead of time. This allows each department to adequately prepare. *Compensation is slightly lower than industry standard, but you will be rewarded annually if they see the results.
