Pros

Good work life balance. You can literally not do a thing and keep your job. It pays pretty well for what the job demands

Cons

It really is like watching that commercial: you witness people getting beaten down and you cannot save them. I have witnessed many smart, educated people get beaten down and complacent because of not only how management treat them, but how people treat each other. Working there was a very sad and depressing experience. If going for an interview just watch them avoid actually answering if they like their job. If you have an education and are not from the area, the answer is NO! Everyone who lives in the area works in the shipyard and knows everyone's business. If you live in Kitsap county you either work at the shipyard, retired from the shipyard, are married to someone in the shipyard or are in the Navy. Because of that, most everyone is married or divorced (several times) to a co-worker. Ladies, if you get advanced to management, be prepared for rumors about you sleeping with the boss. I have witnessed that one to many times. It is VERY passive aggressive and they really mentally and emotionally abuse their employees. Conflict gets solved by thowing people under a bus. If you are hard working and smart, be prepared for no one to care and be annoyed that you are trying to be a good worker. They change their values every 2 years because they cannot meet them. They are SIMPLE things, like people and integrity. Instead of just trying harder, they just change them. Each and EVERY manager blames another instead of taking responsibility. Really think long and hard before working there. It is not a good company and being ambitious and driven is not a good thing. And those that believe they are successful because they are ambitious and driven are sadly mistaken. Good luck to them if they ever leave.
