Pros

This was the first real 'professional' job that I had, and Nationwide taught me a ton! When I started, I was given vast opportunities to develop myself and learn more about insurance. Tons of vacation time

Cons

Culture (at least in my department) turned toxic, quick. The leaders would play favorites, work loads were hugely unbalanced and vastly too high for the amount of work that was required. Company almost completely stopped doing things like 'game days' and company picnics, as well as all team outings. Any that still happen, the employee has to pay out of pocket for and is no longer covered by the company. Benefits are absolutely terrible; nearly lost my house due to medical bills as the insurance doesn't cover anything until the deductible is met, which is several thousand. The company is HUGELY political. I don't mean this as in government political, but if you do not act and/or say exactly how they want you to, you will not succeed. You need to put on your fake smile and never try to tell your leaders a better way to do anything because that's insubordination and you'll get shot down for it.

Pros

-For the most part, the people you work with are good people. Made real lifelong friends and mentors. -As with all large companies, there are plenty of opportunities to advance and/or move around if something isn't a good fit. -One of the rare places still offering a pention

Cons

-Office politics promote plenty of people who don't deserve it and the teams happiness is highly dependent upon who you end up reporting to -WAY too much false urgency created by bad leaders -Big company means slow moving in all the stuff you want to go fast. Often times too many cooks in the kitchen
