Pros

For a small company (~40 FTE) NationSwell has fantastic benefits and really cares about employee wellbeing. The work is interesting and you're engaging with a member community that is doing amazing things in the field of social impact. Work/life balance and support for working parents is strong.

Cons

With some executive turnover and changing revenue models, you really have to be okay with ambiguity and hustle. This feels much more like a start up than a highly-matrixed org and some people complain of lack of clarity. Others see it as an opportunity to build and make their mark. Depends what you're looking for.

Pros

I've had a great experience working as a contractor with NationSwell. The organization is exceptionally well run, with clear processes and transparent communication from leadership. Expectations are communicated well, and there's a genuine sense that everyone is working toward a shared mission. Another standout is compensation. In my experience, contractor rates are competitive and fair, which reflects the value the company places on its partners and contributors. The only downside, depending on your preferences, is that the company is fully remote. If you're someone who thrives on in-person collaboration or enjoys the energy of an office environment, you may miss those face-to-face interactions. That said, the team does a strong job of staying connected virtually and maintaining a collaborative culture despite the distance. In a short time I have experienced transparent communication, well-organized operations, competitive contractor pay, and a very collaborative culture.

Cons

Fully remote, which may not be ideal for those who prefer regular in-person interaction

Pros

-Plenty of opportunities to take ownership, experiment, and build new things. Employees who are proactive and enjoy creating processes or testing ideas will find room to grow. -Compensation is competitive, especially for a mission-driven B Corp. Benefits are strong, and the unlimited PTO policy is genuinely supported. -Leadership does care about employee well-being and culture. -The company seems to be doing decently financially and is growing - helps morale and job security. -The overall culture is positive, with people who care about the mission and are generally supportive of one another.

Cons

-Cross-functional collaboration can be challenging. Some teams operate in silos and do not consistently follow shared processes, which can make it difficult to coordinate work effectively across the organization. -There is a significant amount of custom work, and opportunities to standardize, streamline, and improve coordination across teams are sometimes missed. -The fully remote culture has many benefits, but it can occasionally lead to a level of informality that feels unprofessional. Clearer expectations around communication and accountability would help strengthen collaboration across the organization.
