Pros
Ability to shape and influence policy at the highest state level. Make measurable change at the regional level by troubleshooting complex issues on a day to day basis. Flexible time schedule as well as numerous independent and group projects.
Cons
Promotions are tough to come by because the work is not entirely merit based. The hazard in working in public service is that politics does play a role in determining who gets the choice position. Also, the policy values of the elected official may be in conflict with personal views and despite this, you must tow the line. While you may be talented, the pay does not often rise to a competitive level.
