Pros

Interesting topic. Lot's of exposure and activity whenever there is a major security breach. A team of very smart writers and analysts. Sweet offices and lunch provided every day.

Cons

Everything must be approved by daddy bear, CEO. That's a very bad way to lead a company. Then when he is the bottle neck, all hell breaks lose on everyone else for missing deadlines. Much of the management within the company is taking care of this dysfunctional situation. The whims of leadership can change everything and all initiatives in one late-night session. At that point they may shed employees and priorities without warning. If you're lucky, they will let you know *before* they fire you (that day). If you're not, you will be given "two weeks, starting today, thanks for your work."

Pros

The engineering team has some very talented folks in it who are fun to work with. The company was flexible and understanding during Covid, allowing everyone to work remotely without any salary adjustments. It is an interesting problem space, testing security products.

Cons

The CEO is an egotistical introvert who provides little to no direction to anyone in the company - a flagrant illustration of the Peter Principle! Aside from posting corny dad jokes to the company chat space, no one is really sure what he’s up to. Strategy? Sales? Financials? Hiring? Nobody knows! And if you ask, expect this answer: “we’re doing what makes sense”. People are afraid to ask questions in company-wide meetings. All communication to his direct reports is funneled through the “chief of staff”, a human shield between he and the rest of the company. The engineering team has zero contact with customers and is building a product (again) that nobody wants. I predict they will all end up leaving because of this, which is a shame given their potential. Absolutely zero opportunity for non-attrition driven growth within the company. The only reason they are hiring for any positions is to backfill people who continue to leave. Expect an ongoing interrogation if you want to hire anyone new. No 401k matching. HR sends out “anonymous” survey questions that nobody answers because everyone knows they aren’t actually anonymous. Apparently they started a non profit entity last year, but did a terrible job explaining the reasoning behind that decision, and there hasn’t been a mention of it since.
