Pros
NOV is hands down the best company I've worked as an employee. A very laid back atmosphere that encourages you to share your opinions. They also encourage you to have a work/life balance which you can tell when the NOV tower starts turning into a ghost town even before 5pm. It is a very diverse company with people from all different kinds of backgrounds. A lot families and relatives work at NOV. People just love working here, I have not seen so many employees that been working for over 20 years at any other company. In addition, I have not sensed any bureaucracy and the managers are more of a mentor than a boss. I enjoy going to work everyday and appreciate what I bring to NOV is noticed. As far as benefits go, you get health insurance from BCBS of Texas and premiums are affordable. Dental, Vision, Life, Disability, Retirement 401k, etc. are all typical for a large company. Unlimited sick leave, 3 weeks PTO starting off, and standard US holidays (one almost every month). The facility (NOV Tower on Richmond) is good but had the potential to be great. Don't expect a full blown campus like other O&G companies. But there are perks, the food in the cafeteria is amazing and guest restaurants from all over town come in everyday so you have many options to choose from. It's highly secure and the building is very high tech. There are lounges everywhere and conference and hall rooms galore. The views from the top floors are beautiful from the full glass walls on the edge of the building.
Cons
Working in finance & accounting, I know that as a business, NOV has not been very profitable in the last few years and I'm pretty sure you can guess why that is. Salaries and bonuses are decent but not as good as when O&G was doing well. And lastly, it is a bit hard to advance up the career ladder at NOV, why that is I don't know...This causes a lot of good people to leave, but the great thing is once you have NOV on your resume, you get scooped up really fast by another employer and pay is usually excellent.
