Flexible employer good as a stepping stone - Project Support Officer NHS Confederation Employee Review

Pros

Flexible working - in the office once a week minimum if office based which is fantastic and family friendly. Talented, passionate employees. Great experience and exposure to leaders in the NHS. Wide variety of projects to work on - can be good for getting experience but not so much if you want to specialise. My team was very friendly and I got given opportunities to explore things I was interested in. Had a fantastic manager who was invested in my development, however that’s not a universal experience across the org.

Cons

limited progression for junior staff - lots of senior managers comfortable and don’t move, so lack of opportunities to progress. It’s great as a stepping stone but you’ll likely need to move elsewhere to get a promotion as a junior. Pay is below average. Lack of diversity in some teams. Heavy dull workload which can be stressful at times.

Pros

Good experience in the health sector Lovely people Generally good benefits Unionised

Cons

Rely on short fixed term contracts but only for lower paid staff, meaning limited time in the organisation and virtually no progression as middle managers are comfortable Very normal for staff to be overworked as they prioritise commercial interest over employee ethics
