Pros

NHBC is a well-established organisation with many supportive and approachable colleagues across different areas of the business. There is a strong sense of professionalism and the wider company offers good benefits and opportunities to collaborate with knowledgeable individuals.

Cons

Within my team, I found the working environment could be extremely challenging at times. There was a high level of oversight, which sometimes made it difficult to feel fully trusted or to operate with autonomy in the role. Decision-making processes occasionally lacked clarity and leadership could appear influenced by differing viewpoints within the team, which sometimes led to inconsistency in direction. This could make it harder to progress work efficiently and with confidence. Team dynamics were also, at times, difficult to navigate. While I worked with some great individuals, the overall environment in this area did not always feel as positive or constructive as it could have been. From my perspective, there has been some turnover in the role, which may be worth reviewing to better understand underlying causes.

Pros

- Clear commitment to diversity and inclusion, with significant progress over recent years and visible support from senior leadership - Collaborative and supportive culture - colleagues are approachable, knowledgeable, and willing to mentor and help each other - Strong sense of purpose, especially within technical teams who are committed to doing the right thing for customers - Good investment in training and development, with opportunities to upskill - Modern, well-equipped office spaces, with continued investment in working environments - Positive initiatives that encourage connection and collaboration (e.g. networking and team engagement activities).

Cons

- Slow decision-making due to risk-averse culture, with bureaucracy often getting in the way of progress and innovation - Inconsistent adoption of inclusive and progressive ways of working at middle management level - Limited flexibility around remote/agile working, which can feel out of step with modern expectations - Some long-standing attitudes and ways of working can make change difficult to implement - Large transformation programmes can feel inefficient and slow to deliver outcomes - At times, commercial or relationship pressures can override technical judgement.
