      Pros

      Pay is decent, have option to work from home, and $10,000 travel stipend is really nice

      Cons

      You don't have complete freedom to work on topics that interest you. You have to work on what your mentor wants. This is not what a fellowship is supposed to be. Also, you will not get any response when you reach out to someone higher up.

      Incredible WLB, impactful work, sense of pride when talking about what you do.

      Cons

      Have to work with legacy codebases often (like Fortran).

      They tend to have managers who were engineers. And, "we're going to the freakin Moon!"

      Government bureaucracy stuff, and residues of DOGE
