Pros

1. My core team was amazing. The people that I interacted with on a day to day basis were so intelligent, passionate about the work we were doing, and driven to succeed while also helping raise others up. 2. The company mission and the sentiment behind it to help every day people own their financial freedom in a way that works for them through a traditionally stigmatized and taboo medium.

Cons

Senior Leadership. The COO could not remember what my current title was while they were in the zoom call laying me off. The CEO does NOT know how to make smart business decisions and thinks their lack of qualifications can be fixed with "leadership conferences" instead of learning real business principles or getting the degree they lack- despite requiring degrees of all candidates applying for a position. There is no communication from leadership to their teams or any effort made to try and create a cohesive vision or business goals for the company to follow which made my job seem very aimless. When asked in OCTOBER, during the heat of the Great Tech Layoffs, about the status of the company and if MM was going to need to participate in layoffs, they said, "we're fine! no need to worry" and proceeded to throw a HUGE (Multi-thousand dollar) holiday party in December, only to lay off people come February. And they are still hiring, so either they cannot afford these roles and are choosing to hire anyway, or lied about not being able to keep staff. Leadership puts no emphasis on growing a sustainable company culture, just creates little bandaids to cover up problems. There is no trust built anywhere in the company. They have no regard for actual growth in their employees, only the growth that will make them look good. If you AND your manager weren't on top of getting you raises and promotions that you were asking for, it just did not happen. Performance reviews happened 2-4 months late, if at all. I saw a lot of mid-level managers being overworked, asked to do things above and beyond their roles, not be properly compensated for any of it, and then be completely disregarded when it came time to show results of their initiatives, with Leadership taking all the credit. Diversity at this company is a joke and nepotism runs rampant. A quarter of the workforce is just a friend or family to someone on the leadership team, but they have policies prohibiting any other employees from recommending a friend or family member to a position at the company. This company is basically just a way for the owners to role play as leaders when they're not off doing extreme sports.

Pros

The company has done a fantastic job of creating a welcoming environment. Having been around for a while, the company does not appear to be in a bad financial situation, yet at the same time, it is not so large that it feels bureaucratic. From my experience, the org is a tight-knit bunch who is very encouraging towards one another. Everyone is autonomous and driven, and I am getting to do greenfield development to take a significant new project from 0 to 1. The benefits and perks themselves are also fantastic, and senior leadership are all quite approachable and willing to chat at any time. Ultimately, it to a lot of degrees feels like a very big family, which is great.

Cons

The only real con could potentially be explaining to others what the company does. I personally don't care much, as I work on the engineering side. At that point, my job is to help build tools and platforms, not govern how they are used. It's quite easy to avoid discussing details with others if you are not comfortable with it. Additionally, 401k benefits not starting for 90 days isn't great, but is manageable.
