I joined Mudflap with high hopes, drawn in by the promise of a cutting-edge mission statement, healthy culture and a dynamic work environment. Unfortunately, my time with Mudflap has been nothing short of disappointing. If you’re considering joining this company, proceed with extreme caution. 1. Remote Work: A work from home environment that allows more flexibility and comfort in your day-to-day. 2. *crickets

(Where Do I Begin?) 1. Toxic Culture The culture at Mudflap is toxic, suffocating, and demoralizing. Here’s why: • Inconsistency: It’s a “spit at the wall and see what sticks” state of mind. There’s no real strategy, aim or urgency to deliver better experiences for customers and employees. • Fear-Based Leadership & Politics: Management unsuccessfully tries to rule with an iron fist, creating an environment where employees are afraid to speak up or challenge the status quo. Dissent is met with retaliation. You have your cliques in each department and people are treated differently depending on favorability. • Lack of Transparency: Decisions are made behind closed doors, leaving employees in the dark on a lot of significant changes until the last second. The expectations for your job will change, as you’ll be expected to do more with no appropriate pay increase. 2. Incompetent Management & Leadership Mudflap’s management is a case study in ineptitude: • Micromanagement: Management and leadership hover over your shoulder, playing big brother, while simultaneously offering little to no insight or compassion towards the unhealthy work environment and/or archaic workflows. They’ve chosen to integrate a workforce management tool, which tracks essentially everything you do, even when you choose to use the restroom. They clearly lack trust in their employees’ abilities, while not providing any full-proof solutions or support. • No Career Development: Forget about mentorship or growth opportunities. Managers are too busy firefighting endless problems to invest in their teams. • Lack of Effective Training & Guidance: A major contributor to the turnover rate and irritable work culture has been the company’s feeble attempt at training. To sum It up quickly; training feels like they handed us a map to a treasure hunt, but it’s just a doodle of a cat. They care less about information retention and more about optics. Be prepared to be shown uninspiring Google Doc slides, filled to the brim with convoluted information. You’ll then be expected to complete the most mind-numbing pop quiz. If you’re battling insomnia, you’re in luck because Mudflap’s “training” is Nyquil for the eyes. • Communication Breakdown: Communication is shallow and lacks any extensive follow-up or inquiry. Each department is left unprepared and often alone to figure it out on their own. • Leadership in Crisis: Leadership at Mudflap faces significant challenges due to ineffective management, which undermines their ability to operate effectively and make decisions. Therefore leadership has demonstrated a concerning lack of effectiveness and experience, resulting in decisions that fail to inspire confidence. I hope they can find an effective manager or eventually backfill the CX Director role to reinvigorate the department since the last one left, understandably. 3. Talent Drain • High Turnover: Talented individuals flee Mudflap like rats from a sinking ship. As mentioned above, this has led to backfilling roles with underqualified replacements or completely leaving the position unfulfilled to save money. In turn, this has left each department in a weakened state, diminishing morale. The revolving door is honestly dizzying. • Burnout: The workload is relentless and void of passion. Imagine the happiest moment of your life. Working at Mudflap is the complete opposite of that feeling, but it’s every single day. You’ll be thrown to the wolves unprepared frequently while simultaneously expected to deliver on arbitrary metrics. • No Recognition: Hard work goes unnoticed. The company’s idea of recognition is a generic Slack shout out. Any recognition is the absence of sincerity and just a formality at this point. 4. A Broken App & Wonky Internal Systems Mudflap’s app is a disaster: • Glitches Galore: Constant crashes, freezes, and overall poor design choices make the app truly bizarre and anti-user. • Customer Frustration: Users complain about missing features, lack of self-service options, backwards policies, and confusing interfaces to name a few. • Internal Chaos: You can look forward to company software and vital internal applications to have weekly outages every other week. Conclusion: Mudflap is a cautionary tale. If you value your sanity, career growth, work-life balance, and soul, look elsewhere. The company’s reputation is tarnished, and it’s no wonder they struggle to retain top talent and have encountered legal challenges/settlements stemming from lawsuits filed by former employees and customers. As stated in other reviews, this company is heading on a downward spiral of chaos and incompetence. They are just filling positions at this point instead of creating an amazing company culture. Remember, a paycheck isn’t worth sacrificing your well-being. Save yourself the headache and explore better opportunities. Good luck out there!

Pros

Mudflap is a scrappy, mission-driven team working to modernize an industry that’s long overdue for a refresh. The pace is fast, the impact is real, and your ideas are genuinely heard. You get to build alongside smart, motivated people, and there’s a strong sense of ownership and camaraderie. We work hard, but we also have a lot of fun doing it. If you’re a builder who’s excited by growth, impact, and creating something meaningful from the ground up, this is a great team.

Cons

The pace and ambiguity aren’t for everyone. Work-life balance can be challenging at times, and because we’re building as we go, plans and priorities can shift quickly. You need to be comfortable operating without a lot of structure.
