Pros

Interview process is quite thorough (which includes a full medical exam!). It's also a small office with a collegial, "family-style" environment. Fellow co-workers are largely professional and courteous. Dress code is business casual to a point. If you somehow meet expectations, there's a possibility of getting a bonus. I also had the chance to acquire business development skills too.

Cons

Training for my position involved reading a huge binder full of information. Other than that, the entire training process didn't help me perform the job to their expectations. PTO and benefits only kick in after the first 90 days, and even then it's not easy to accrue time off (even for illness). Pay is definitely based on how much (or little) work experience you have. Work environment can be hostile at times, especially when that fury comes from senior management (as well as the failure to secure any contracts as a whole). Salary is considered exempt (as opposed to non-exempt per hour). During my time there, I observed questionable business practices and a fairly high turnover rate (especially among recent hires). Had to keep my head low to survive too. The vice president of this company holds the real power in this office to the point of micromanaging everyone (right down to time cards and emailing that person an end-of-day summary of all work completed); if you cross this person, be prepared to clear your desk.

Pros

I have been working full-time at this family-owned company for over 2 years. During that time I have been promoted twice. I have also had the opportunity to travel all over the country. The work can be hard but I truly enjoy it. My colleagues are easy to get along with and everyone works as a team. The owner has high (but not unreasonable) expectations. He never asks anyone to do something he wouldn't be willing to do himself. He is always willing to pitch in and help meet a deadline. I have learned everything "on the job." If I don't know how to do something, I look it up, ask for assistance, or see if there is a class I can take. The company pays for any work related education! I believe the key to succeeding here is communication. If you aren't sure how to do something, ask for help! If you don't think you can meet a deadline, let your supervisor know. Either, the deadline will be adjusted or someone will be assigned to assist you.

Cons

Can be very long hours and at times very stressful.
