Steer clear if you value your mental health - Software Engineer Moonward Employee Review

Pros

Some people pleasant to work with, aside from management, and you’re given a significant amount of responsibility, which might be your thing.

Cons

In my view, the work environment isn’t healthy. The workload is overwhelming, there’s virtually no support, and management often put client demands ahead of their own employees’ needs. On top of that you need to go into the office ever single day. The compensation is also quite low considering the level of stress involved. If your mental health is important to you, I’d recommend keeping your distance.

Pros

- Incredibly talented people (besides the management) that you will eventually form a trauma bond with due to the workplace conditions. - Good location in the city

Cons

Where to begin? - Predatory hiring practices that ensure most new employees are junior and require sponsorships so they can trap them at the company for a low salary. - The CEO actively applauds people for working on weekends and doing unpaid overtime, all while bragging about his wealth and taking multiple European vacations per year. - A single developer can be put on as many as 6-8 projects at once because management doesn't understand how to say no and set clear boundaries; they are incredibly greedy and are happy to let their developers suffer as long as they make money. - With AI becoming the latest company buzzword, the CEO has decided that the direction of the company is for everyone to be a developer and contribute to the codebase of our client's projects. That means the office admin, designer and product owners are all expected to push code; even the lady who comes in to water the plants once a month might even make a pull request! Roles and responsibilities don't exist at this company; everyone is everything. - The CEO has a fragile EGO and only wants "Yes" men around him. - If you go above and beyond in your role and build a product that the client is happy with, it's good to know that you'll still be blamed when the company loses money. They overpromised on scope and cost during sales, but somehow that is the developer's fault. So while they love to preach about taking ownership and accountability for your work, the management are somehow unable to do it themselves. - An impressively high turnover rate. Do you enjoy working with the same people for longer than 3 months? You won't find that here. - There are no developers in the management team... in a software development company. - The CEO and Lead Designer decide on the development timelines with minimal input from the actual developers that will be building the products, resulting in an "over-promise and under-deliver" type experience that I am sure most clients can attest to. - Forced to lie to clients on progress because developers are trying to balance so many projects at once.

Pros

The team (excluding management) is excellent, friendly, and very proactive.

Cons

Basically everything that has already been said above in other reviews. I worked for a year at Moonward, on five projects at the same time. The deadlines were impossible to meet, and new projects were always coming in without us even having time to think about them. And of course, Andrew (the company owner) always made a point of saying that our performance was poor because of us and not because of the totally stressful and chaotic environment that was our daily routine due to lack of management and resources. Unfortunately, the only bonus I got was severe trauma and burnout every two months.
