Pros
The faculty in my department (Writing Studies) is very friendly and supportive; within certain parameters, the department leaders are open to and encouraging of fresh ideas in teaching, They have strong respect for the students, many of whom are minorities and/or the children of immigrants.
Cons
The pay for adjunct professors -- at any university -- is abysmal. At MSU, adjuncts can only teach two classes per semester, so many are employed at multiple universities, trying to make ends meet. The difference in pay between tenured profs and those who teach most of the classes (the adjuncts) is ridiculously large.
