Pros

I began my career at Moncur as a junior, and learned more in my first six months than school had taught me. I was able to move up within a year and a half and work on countless portfolio-worthy projects. Leadership asks what I enjoy doing, what I want to do more of, and what I want to learn how to do, which led me to projects and successes that I'm incredibly proud of. I've always felt highly valued, and it's expressed by both leadership and colleagues. Not every day is perfectly easy, but we get through it with much support, on both a personal and professional level. I've never dreaded a single day of work since joining Moncur, and I so highly value the job I have, the people I work with, and everything leadership does to take care of us. As stated in the title, I couldn't have started my career at a better place.

Cons

Time Management: Our Happy Hours are usually longer than an hour.

Pros

Serving a Specialized Audience: Moncur works with niche clients who genuinely benefit from and need specialized services, giving the work a sense of purpose. Work-Life Balance: Moncur is accommodating when it comes to personal appointments and responsibilities. You can step away to attend appointments or handle personal matters without causing major disruptions or facing negative consequences. Tool Exploration Freedom: There is both the freedom and budget to test and implement new tools that can improve workflow efficiency and productivity. Talented Team Members: Moncur has assembled an incredibly talented team of professionals who excel in their respective specialties.

Cons

Leadership Issues: Unfortunately, the negative reviews about leadership are accurate. The company's growth is significantly hindered by management that lacks essential people management skills. There appears to be little recognition of this problem or efforts to address it. Poor Conflict Resolution: The workplace culture allows for interpersonal conflicts to remain unresolved. When someone decides they don't like working with another person, communication breaks down completely. Rather than addressing issues professionally, avoidance becomes the norm, making collaboration nearly impossible. Inadequate Team Communication: Information sharing across the team is lacking. I frequently found myself in the dark about other client projects and developments. When assigned to projects mid-stream, I was many times not given sufficient context or information up front needed to complete work accurately. Instead, I had to proactively hunt down project details and requirements that should be provided at the outset. This created unnecessary inefficiencies and put the burden on team members to find all the information they needed. Outdated Technology: The company relies on a legacy CMS that significantly holds back capabilities and client solutions. Despite the availability of more modern CMS options that would better address client needs, there's resistance to upgrading or exploring alternatives. Resistance to Improvement: Despite initial encouragement to identify better processes and procedures, there is strong resistance to implementing actual change. Problems identified early in my time at Moncur remained unaddressed throughout my employment, creating persistent frustration. Compensation Issues: The salary structure is problematic with virtually no opportunities for increases. After my first year, the company implemented a salary freeze, which was followed by layoffs of four team members. This creates significant financial insecurity and suggests underlying business concerns. Website Strategy & User Experience Disconnect: There's a significant disconnect when it comes to implementing digital marketing best practices. Websites are often treated more as just billboards rather than ALSO as sales and conversion tools. From an SEO and UX perspective, too much essential content is removed during the development process, directly resulting in lower traffic and conversions. Digital marketing considerations need to be integrated throughout the process, not treated as an afterthought.
