Pros
• Lot of smart and good people working there. • Good if you’re looking for hands on entry level experience. • Regular employee testing for Covid-19.
Cons
• Communication is AWFUL. Like really bad. If you enjoy finding out about big changes to your job/work flow a week after the fact, then maybe this is a pro. • Pay is awful. My pay specifically was about 70% industry average. Lot of people working there haven't had a raise in 4-5 years. So if you do apply here, negotiate hard on starting salary because it’ll probably be your forever salary. • HR is but a whisper of a whisper. Is there HR here? There were rumors of one I believe. • Willing to cut corners. Nothing illegal or anything. More like under staff over here. Not enough equipment for this. Won't purchase enough licenses for this software so everyone just shares. Every computer there is like 6 years old, etc. • Unethical business practices. Gather ‘round children and let me tell you about that time our cofounder plead guilty to a kickback scheme in which they paid physicians to send MTL all their urine samples and then concealed the payments as “marketing services" You can find articles about this with a quick google search. • Poor laboratory practices. Lots of little things for instance people walking through common areas in full lab gear. Did I mention there’s an infectious disease lab? • Boom/bust hiring cycle. They invest hard in short term projects hiring extra people for said projects, then the projects lose steam and they lay-off all those extra people. • The servers are down…again. And again. Didn’t this just happen last wee…down again. • Broken promises. If you go ahead and apply and wind up interviewing at the Vancouver site, ask to see the unfinished saunas in the back. They’ve been like that for 5 years. That’s the tip of the iceberg but you get it. • Stupid logo. They sort of half tried rebranding Molecular Testing Labs as just “MOLECULAR” and the “O” has another little tiny “o” connected to it. They ran it by the employees and we were all like, “the tiny ‘o’ is stupid why not a benzene ring or an atom or something?” They didn’t listen so now it looks like Moolecular.
