Pros
* Hiring standards are very high, both in terms of technical chops and a person's soft skills that makes them a good team member. As a result, people are great to work with both personally and in terms of being on top of all the science. * The science is really interesting! It's multidisciplinary, has a great purpose, and very challenging. * Management really embraces a strategy of constant improvement and trying to make people effective by providing the resources they need. * Everyone really does embrace a meritocracy; debating decisions with one of the founders is common and welcome. * Shoutouts and an emphasis on teamwork keep everything really positive - people are quick to acknowledge good things others have done, and it's not about pinning blame on people.
Cons
* While people are supportive in helping you get up to speed, it's still a steep learning curve. * As others have noted, definitely not a 9-5 job. But people do expect you to have a life; it's definitely a better culture of hard work than other places. * You need to be OK with being expected to quickly learn things outside your comfort zone and do what's most important for the company than what you may find most interesting.
