Pros

The discount. That was about it unfortuntely.

Cons

For a company with 1 head office which consisted of around 12 people, a few stores in the North West and North Wales area with no more than 80 staff in total (and that’s being generous), the turnover of staff was by far the highest I have ever seen in my life for any company I have ever worked for to this day. I had my suspicions while working there and have since come to learn from other people who have themselves been treated in the same way or seen colleagues treated in this way. They appear to get rid of staff on an absolute whim, of which I encountered first hand. I left a role I was happy and comfortable in to try and progress my career 'to the next level'. Everything was going well until I was approaching the end of my 3 month probationary period, of which for absolutely no reason, they tried extending by another 3 months. Obviously I was confused by this decision therefore I challenged this but I wasn't given any satisfactory reason. When I mentioned that I had recently joined a union and spoken to them, I was correctly given a full contract some 2 weeks later. I had my 6 monthly review and everything was looking good in terms of results and performance, so imagine my surprise when completely out of the blue, I was told that Mococo would be letting me go, almost 1 year to the day of my start date. Again, no acceptable explanation was given accept it was due to 'cost cutting'. To be completely honest, although surprised, it was actually a huge relief. I’d already had a couple of interviews and was looking to get out of the company by this point, this just speeded up the process for myself. The owners are extremely flash and very money orientated, they would turn up in a brand new car every 3-5 months and the MD was in the middle of buying a house on the other side of the Atlantic, all the while pulling the trigger, left, right and centre on staff, probably to save money for their latest whim. The culture is very much ‘if your face fits’. The industry is very female dominated (which you would expect), which is not a problem at all for me but I always felt as a male that none of the staff really wanted me there. I was always spoken down to, with snide remarks and comments by the other staff members. Although, to be fair to the MD’s this was not the case with them. The office was very cliquey however. Fast forward to today and I’m part of a brilliant company who know how to treat their staff and also I have progressed throughout. I’ve met some of my best friends here, including my MD, who I am proud to call a friend. I left Mococo quietly and also relieved that a miserable year had come to end. I did not make a fuss, and I did not speak negatively about the company at the time but years on and I feel I probably should have said something, if only to warn other potential employees what they can expect. If you wish to be a valued member as a part of a fun and friendly team, with progression a priority, I would advise to stay well clear.
