Pros
Great company benefits and competitive pay. Really kind and helpful staff members.
Cons
In my Mitie interview, I was not asked a single question which in hindsight should have indicated this place was just looking for a position to fill quickly, but when I got the position, I was really excited to work for a reputable company with great benefits and what seemed to be really well established. My first week at Mitie was the worst first week I have ever had at any job. There was no site induction, (considering it was a large site this was really appalling) I was not told who to contact in case of emergency or where fire exits or assembly points were. There was no training on how to use their till systems or what their coffee menu consisted of, and the management team left me and another new starter on the shop floor with nobody in a position of authority to oversee us. Many times we were left without any trained staff on the shop floor and customers were annoyed by the fact we couldn’t serve them. I informed management of all of this on my first day, and was told that they did not have the time to train me or the other new starter yet, and that I shouldn’t be operating the coffee machine or the till, however there was literally only one staff member at a time within the shop who could do both of these things, so I effectively was asked to do nothing. Within the first few days I realised how poorly planned their cafe operations were, the till system was effectively useless as the pricing was input incorrectly and they consistently had issues with contactless payment dropping out of service at busy times. The management team had decided to start all their ward new starter staff at the same time as the cafe new staff and also were having renovations done, changing machinery and changing their cafe stock items over all within the same week, and the managers couldn’t cope with the amount of tasks they had to do.
