Pros

A really fun and interesting way to help young women achieve their academic and career goals through scholarships, and through the personal growth they achieve by competing in five different areas - private interview, on-stage question, physical fitness in swimsuit, evening wear and talent. Lots of opportunities to volunteer - stage production, contestant preparation in one or more areas, social media marketing for contestant recruitment and pageant PR, program book design, and more! The Miss America Organization is the leading provider of scholarships for women in the nation - last year awarding nearly $6 million at the local, state and national level.

Cons

Can get very hectic in the last few weeks before the pageant, pulling together all the details, and making sure all contestant paperwork and eligibility requirements are met. It gets easier the more you do it as you get more familiar with all the details of the rules. This is a completely volunteer organization - so you won't be making any money doing this. You will, however, be changing lives.

Pros

resume skills, interview practice, scholarships earned, make-up training, hair training, taking a stand for your platform, community involvement.

Cons

Signed contract taken seriously. If you can't abide by it, DO NOT SIGN IT. It is taken very seriously, and not many young women know to take it seriously or they could forfeit their scholarships and their title if they win.
