Pros

- Great, competent engineers make this a fun place work where you can grow professionally. This has already begun to change due to the pending re-location to Norfolk, VA. - Dynamic work environment. Get to work in the office, in the shipyards, on the ships. You can learn a ton about ship related engineering and ship operations - Flexible work schedule

Cons

- The current admiral and executive director are completely out of touch with how shore side MSC employees support our mariners and the fleet. Their actions indicate that they don't know or don't care that consolidating MSC will result in a massive loss of personnel and along with it the corporate knowledge that allows us to support our mariners. - Surveys indicate 80-90% of MSC's technical division in Washington DC will not re-locate to Norfolk, VA. This includes most of the senior staff. I have serious doubts that MSC will be able to replace that expertise in a time frame that won't negatively impact their ability to support the mariners and the fleet. The admiral and executive director seem to have blinders on with respect to this concern. - MSC doesn't have the money to truly consolidate in Norfolk. They don't have the money to acquire the required space or to fully refurbish those spaces. Employees will be scattered throughout the Norfolk area and be displaced several times during the transition. We've been told that branches may be split up and have to work in different buildings. Some current Norfolk employees have already been moved into buildings that don't even have bathrooms.
