Pros

MWD is a great employer for tech-minded people who want to live in a rural community. The employees are great and fun to work with.

Cons

If you don't want to live in rural Missouri this is not the job for you.

Pros

It's a job in the quiet town of rock port. It allows you to raise your kids in a great environment with one of the best schools in the state. The cto seems to care and does a good job heading off potential trouble. There are some wonderful employees there that are long time veterans to learn from. It's a low pace job with its occasional bursts of high pressure/stress times. It's a great environment to work in 80% of the time. Like all jobs it has it's ups and downs but you will have an enjoyable experience more time than not. Biggest jet is you have to be able and willing to dig into problems and not just ask for someone to do it. Sometimes even as an it person google is your friend. There is several just amazing customers. The customers really show they care about you and in return you really care about how they are running. With the staff here you can get to know some great people. We have our share of Pain in the ..... but we also have our share of great customers. The company gives you a chance to grow, the company is on solid footing. If you are just starting out its a great place to cut your teeth. You may just stay for the long haul because of the people and community. That sounds like a sales pitch but that is what happened to my wife and I. We came what we thought would be a stepping stone and have been here ten years.

Cons

You will not make as much money as you will in the big city. If the American dollar is what you are chasing, you are better off in the big city making an extra 20-30k. The higher ups care but at times lose sight of what the lower employees do. Just the case of management vs peons that has been going on since the beginning of time. The opportunity to move up is stunted in the upper management is all middle aged and a ways from retirement. From starting out you will have the opportunity to move up from Helpdesk to outside level 1, level 2, senior level 2. So advancement is there, and you can advance fast at the beginning you can hit a plateau early on. There is an on call pager that is not enjoyable and they pay/benefits when you have it do not equal having the pager. It's constantly being tweaked to try to make it better. The fact they are attempting to make it better shows they understand pager is an evil, just right now a necessary evil. The company does go through spurts of underemployment. They are a pain to experience but they pull through it. It usually happens in a cycle every few years. We are currently going through one of those spurts which has increased work load, but they usually calm down after a big hiring session. The data center is tied to a phone company which can make it where the data center feels like a red headed step child. My only personal complaint is they moved me out of my office and into a shared office and it's way too loud for phone calls. It's made my job more difficult but I will eventually adapt but has been a struggle.

Pros

Great team of techs of all levels. Unlimited GROWTH and LEARNING opportunities. Company pays for all certifications, training courses, travel and expenses.

Cons

1 week of on-call is a requirement by all techs. This happens about 3 to 4 time a year. Depending how many techs we have on staff.
