Pros

Pros Metis Strategy is a fantastic place to work from a cultural, intellectual, and work-life balance perspective. Metis has a strong team and flat organizational structure, making it a great place to build your career. Upper management consists of highly competent, experienced, and knowledgeable individuals, who are also highly accessible. The people at Metis Strategy drive a great culture built on the following: Work-Life Balance: While hours can be quite long at times, particularly around the completion / presentation of a deliverable, the notion that we "work to live, not live to work" rings true and is generally abided by at Metis Strategy. Ownership: As a boutique consulting firm, it’s important that each team member is comfortable being accountable for their work, operating at times in a semi-to-fully autonomous fashion, and having ownership of deliverable outcomes. While often stressful, this affords great opportunities to launch or grow your career. Openness to Employee Feedback: All employees, regardless of their level on the org chart, have an opportunity to discuss firm opportunities for improvement. While many organizations tout openness to employee feedback, I propose that few actually have a management team who listens to feedback, and takes action on that feedback, as well as Metis Strategy executives.

Cons

Formal training Training tends to be more on the onus of the employee, and it is their responsibility to be prepared for a new client engagement. While significant value exists in asking an employee to carve out the time to become familiar with a new environment, the practice is prone to becoming an afterthought as the deluge of daily work overwhelms the availability for learning that cannot immediately leveraged. This being said, recently we have done an excellent job sending employees to training sessions and funding certifications, and I sincerely hope to see this continue to expand. Time with Manager While Metis Strategy managers do an excellent job spending any available free time training direct reports, I still feel like at times, more dedicated time to thoroughly dissect a concept, or brainstorm a deliverable, would go a long way towards catalyzing the development of associates.

Pros

Metis Strategy is an extremely welcoming and friendly place to work. The people are sharp, supportive, and genuinely invested in helping you grow. It is easy to find mentorship and guidance, and you feel surrounded by teammates who want you to succeed. Project work has given me the chance to work with a wide range of clients across different industries, which has been a great learning experience. Every engagement feels a little different, so you’re constantly building new skills and getting exposure to how different organizations operate. Because it is a smaller company, you also get real ownership. You are not just contributing to project work, you can also help shape the company from the inside. Even as a fully remote firm, leadership puts real effort into morale, employee growth, and learning. They take culture seriously and do a great job creating connection and engagement (through both virtual and in-person events), even without being in the same office. I am very happy at my role.

Cons

Since the company is fully remote, it can sometimes feel isolating. I really like my colleagues, so I would love more chances to meet in person. The company does host in-person collaboration sessions in cities with larger clusters of employees, and those help a lot. The workload can also be demanding at times, and it is not unusual to work late occasionally. That said, it has been manageable overall and feels consistent with the type of work and level of ownership you get. A smaller team also means fewer layers of structure, so you sometimes have to be comfortable operating with some ambiguity and moving quickly as priorities shift.

Pros

I worked at Metis for several years and had both a great experience and immense professional growth, below are a couple of reasons for it: - You are given the opportunity to perform work that (at a larger firm) would typically be reserved for more tenured employees. This has had a huge impact on accelerating my professional development. - You have the ability to pursue subjects that are interesting to you, whether through client-facing work or internal initiatives. - You will have direct exposure to C-suite executives at Fortune 500 organizations. - You are encouraged to take part in writing articles, I cannot stress how unique and valuable this experience is. - You have the flexibility to create a work schedule that fits your life.

Cons

Metis is a great firm, but has some growing pains, below are some aspects of the organization with opportunities for improvement: - This is common in consulting, but you must be comfortable with ambiguity. You will, at times, do work that you have little experience in and/or have little direction in completing it. This is especially true at a smaller firm, such as Metis. - You will work very closely with your project team(s), but it can be difficult to find time to connect with others across the firm. - The recruiting and onboarding process could benefit from standardization.
