Pros

--Great location and office space, and healthcare benefits package was standard. --Small teams allow for junior level staffers to have access to work they might not get to touch on elsewhere. --Comradery among junior staffers.

Cons

I've worked at multiple agencies and the way Metis is structured is not conducive to any real growth, especially if an employee doesn't fit into the exact mold of what management "thinks" someone in a non-management level position at an agency should be. Yes, agency life is fast-paced, and client relations/satisfaction are the number one priority in this field, but the negative way employees are treated behind-the-scenes is unlike anything I've experienced, before or after Metis. It is important for agencies to have high standards and produce good work, which Metis does (externally) most of the time, but internally there are some real problems. The complete lack of work-life balance, the negative (often clique-y and passive aggressive) behavior of mid-level management and executives and the intense micromanagement (to the point where as a twenty-something I did not even feel comfortable drafting an email) led me to look for other opportunities as soon as possible. When interviewing, Metis was positioned as "a real family", but that's only the case if you fit its rigid, anxiety-driven mold.

Pros

Loved working with a senior team - very knowledgeable and helped in my professional growth. Working from home is great and very flexible. Great benefits including PTO and company holidays.

Cons

Loved my team and was sad we didn’t get more time to meet up in person!

Pros

Previously, I had been with a large international PR and marketing agency. While I was part of the management team and had been there a while, it wasn’t the right fit. I wanted to get back to the type of environment I enjoyed most; working closely with clients alongside a tight-knit group of pros who are experts in their respective fields. Fortunately, a former colleague and one of the original founders at Metis contacted me to join their leadership team and help the company transition from a traditional PR agency into a business consultancy with only senior-level people. Also, ownership at Metis had changed, opening the door for me to help build a path to the future. I’ve been with Metis for roughly three years now and it’s one of the best career moves I’ve made. It’s made up of top-notch senior talent. It’s not an agency where work is passed off to a team of inexperienced personnel to fulfill once the contract is signed. Morale is high, everyone is supportive and the benefits are impressive. There’s ample opportunity to learn and we’re growing. Since I’ve been here, I’ve seen just one person leave. I’ve enjoyed the experience so much, I’ve brought others into the fold, as full-time staff and consultants.

Cons

Changing the direction of an agency isn’t something that happens overnight. But while it can take time for everything to fall into place, Metis made a successful shift to senior-only and its strong momentum reflects it.
