Challenging environment to work in, but worth the growth (professional and personal) you'll gain - Social Worker Methodist Health System Employee Review

Pros

Working here will help you gain or brush up on a great deal of skills, including working with high acuity patients, dealing with different work personalities, both friendly/welcoming and those who are not. Working in a fast-paced environment and growing professionally and personally. Lunch and learns with providers (they bring lunch most times and a great deal of knowledge). While there may or may not be much room for growth within the hospital, this provides room for professional growth in general.

Cons

Environment can be stressful at times, and cliques can sometimes lead one to feel out of place, excluded or isolated. This can be corrected by building a support system, whether internal or external, staying focused on your goals and reminding yourself of your worth.

Thank you for taking the time to share such a thoughtful and detailed review. We’re glad to hear that working here helped you build a wide range of skills, from managing high-acuity patients to navigating different personalities and thriving in a fast-paced environment. It’s also great to know you found value in the lunch and learns with providers. We appreciate your honest feedback about the stressful moments, the impact of cliques, and the need for a stronger sense of belonging. Your suggestions about improving onboarding by making it more structured and supportive, encouraging diversity of ideas, and offering more training or activities to address burnout are especially insightful. We truly value your perspective and will keep these insights in mind as we continue working to create a more welcoming and resilient workplace.

Pros

Coming from a smaller size hospital but big company like Methodist and known high paying hospital in DFW, I needed more shifts. Since MDMC is bigger than my other PRN, I have higher chance of getting shifts because there are more monitoring stations, more staff taking PTOs, higher chance of staff calling out sick and therefore opening the shift, etc.

Cons

More workload and higher census! Almost 50 patients on heart monitor per station.

We're glad to hear that the flexibility and availability of shifts have been a benefit for you. As one of the region's largest health systems, Methodist offers opportunities that can help PRN team members find the schedule that works best for them. We also recognize that higher patient volumes and workload expectations can come with working in a busy, high-acuity environment. Supporting our team members remains a priority, and we continually evaluate our compensation programs and workplace resources to remain competitive and help our employees succeed. Thank you for the important role you play in caring for our patients and for being a valued member of the Methodist family.
