Great Place to Work - RN Registered Nurse Methodist Health System Employee Review

Pros

Methodist Dallas has a great culture of friendly people who help and encourage eachother. The President of the hospital, John Phillips, is kind and humble and will stop to ask you how your day is going and thank you for the work you do as he passes you buy in the hallway. He's the type of person who personally signs cards. The benefits are great here, and we were paid sufficient compensation and provided PPE during the COVID epidemic. Magnet status has opened the door for opportunity in research, leadership, and education. This is really a great place to work.

Cons

The hospital is understaffed which leads to heavy patient loads, though this has been drastically made worse by COVID. A maximum of 5 patients protects us here. Understaffing of PCT's causes extra work on the nurse. The equipment is a bit older and outdated.

Pros

Coming from a smaller size hospital but big company like Methodist and known high paying hospital in DFW, I needed more shifts. Since MDMC is bigger than my other PRN, I have higher chance of getting shifts because there are more monitoring stations, more staff taking PTOs, higher chance of staff calling out sick and therefore opening the shift, etc.

Cons

More workload and higher census! Almost 50 patients on heart monitor per station.

We're glad to hear that the flexibility and availability of shifts have been a benefit for you. As one of the region's largest health systems, Methodist offers opportunities that can help PRN team members find the schedule that works best for them. We also recognize that higher patient volumes and workload expectations can come with working in a busy, high-acuity environment. Supporting our team members remains a priority, and we continually evaluate our compensation programs and workplace resources to remain competitive and help our employees succeed. Thank you for the important role you play in caring for our patients and for being a valued member of the Methodist family.
