Supportive coworkers but serious safety and transparency issues - Barista Mercurys Coffee Employee Review

Pros

Coworkers were supportive, and I enjoyed getting to know many of the regular customers.

Cons

My experience was that employee health and safety were not treated as a priority. I worked in a building with ongoing water damage and other maintenance concerns that I repeatedly reported. Despite sending multiple emails to the individual responsible for HR, operations, and emergency maintenance, I did not feel the underlying issues were adequately addressed. The concerns were significant enough that Washington Labor & Industries became involved. Ultimately, I felt the working conditions left me with no choice but to resign. I was also disappointed by what I felt was a lack of transparency. Some products marketed as “sugar-free” still contained sugar, and I was unable to verify the company’s claim that its coffee was USDA-certified 100% organic. These issues, combined with the condition of the building and concerns about pest entry due to gaps and improper sealing, made me question the company’s commitment to employee safety and quality standards.

Pros

The coffee was great, and interacting with customers was one of the better parts of the job. Most of my coworkers were friendly and supportive.

Cons

The work environment was exhausting, with little opportunity for proper breaks during shifts. The coffee stand frequently had issues with bees, which made working conditions uncomfortable. Additionally, I found the owner and upper management to be unprofessional and difficult to work with.
