Pros
IPS if the store makes profit. Extra pay on weekends. Paid hourly (lots of overtime) Health benefits are better than some and you can get dental. There is a 401k but Menards doesn't put anything towards it. It is easy to advance through the company (con: they let anyone, even people who shouldn't).
Cons
Being in full time management, I always worked over 40 hours. Work every other weekend (which is normal considering your working retail). Never got off at the time you're scheduled off at, especially in management. If you are looking to go into management, prepare to have no life outside work hardly. I think a huge part on what makes a job either good or bad is the people you work with. I used to love working at Menards and I put up with the small bad parts because I loved the people I worked with. Then I transferred stores and it all went down hill. The general managers don't respect workers, they pick favorites, and cut you down. One of the asst. general managers hadn't even worked at the company for as long as I had and was my age. He enjoyed cutting others down, especially when he made women in the work place cry. The corporate office doesn't seem to care either. One of the asst. general managers would literally scream at team members. The general manager above him never did anything so finally when the asst. threatened a team member, a fellow team member reported him. Not sure it was true, but rumor said that the asst. general manager had done it to people at other stores, but he only got transferred around when it happened and not fired. They would also find excuses to fire certain people, and find excuses to keep people they like from getting fired. The store I previously worked at didn't make IPS this past year. So this tells me they aren't doing as well and I would have to say its because of management and the high employee turnover. But who knows..
