Pros

I need to think real hard about this one.

Cons

Toxic environment and incompetent management. My first assignment as a reporter was to produce a promotional video for this school that was building programs for students with learning difficulties. When interviewing a teenage student, I asked him how he manages to overcome his dyslexia or something like that. The school representant was in the room and apparently, she was offended that I had pronounced the D word. Instead of talking to me about it (after all, isn't it all about education and raising awareness), she complained to my boss. The next morning when coming to work, my boss was furious and yelled at me because I have upseted her precious client. She was not that supportive towards them though when the teachers went on a strike, during which, some video contracts were cancelled or on hold. She was complaining that journalists never stop working -having to read the papers in the morning and watching the news after coming home- so she didn't get why teachers would have the nerve to go on a strike, depriving her precious business of an income. That's why this industry is doing so well right. Burnout-out rates in these sectors are eloquent. At least teachers show more solidarity among them. Not to mention the times where she was watching over my shoulder when editing videos, stressing me beyond belief. They pretend that it's all fun with their stupid Facebook posts where they publish photos of the staff having lunch together or wearing hats for "Hats Day". Yoopi-doo.

Pros

Worked there years ago but judging by recent reviews nothing changed. I guess that company finally grew old enough to have one of these profiles. - Management made an effort to create and close knit work group. - CEO always tried those management self improvement and was big on networking so the company in terms of reputation wise was growing. - They try to be official-lish...I think it's worth something.

Cons

- Management watches like a hawk and is super paranoid and untrusting of their employees. - Takes on ambitious projects that are just completely unreasonable in comparison to their capabilities and staff available. - If you're a freelancer it's just a revolving door and people have been pressured to work beyond their contracts without hopes for renewal. There was never enough work to make when being paid per hour to be worth it. Don't freelance here. EVER. -One of the other reviews mentioned being painful to watch a girl get yelled at by the boss constantly. I legitimately don't know if that was me, because I also watched that happen to someone and I became that girl after.

Thanks for your comments. You’re absolutely right, we have a great team that does fantastic work. We are proud of their achievements on behalf of our clients. I appreciate your comments about the high standards we set for our work and that we don’t take shortcuts. It’s important for our clients that the work is done right the first time and we strive for that every day. We also ask our staff to be accountable and deliver on client expectations. Sometimes, that requires the team to engage in a healthy debate where different ideas and opinions help us get to the best result. We don’t often hire freelancers, but I’m pretty sure I know when you were here because we did bring some extra talent in to help with a specific project. We take our commitment to our freelancers very seriously. We treat our freelancers the same way we treat our staff, even extending employee perks like opportunities to upgrade skills and participate in team building exercises. We also have a reputation for paying all invoices in full and on time. To that end, we’ve checked our records, and all projects on which we used freelance or contract help have been invoiced and paid. MediaFace continues to grow, and everyday we look at ways we can improve our processes, our culture and the work we do for our clients. Ensuring we have a “right fit” team is a priority so we can meet our objectives. I do hope you have found the right place in which to practice your craft. Good luck!
