Pros

Overtime availability Health insurance is good Opportunities to learn Scrub allowance CE allowance Doctors are kind and willing to teach if you want to learn

Cons

-hospital management spends zero time on the floor, decisions are made based off what’s on paper. -not family friendly. If you have kids, or health issues, or anything that makes work not be your main priority - it’s unacceptable. they don’t care if you’re sick. they don’t care if your kid is sick. they don’t care if you have a funeral. Car troubles. Traffic. Snow. Whatever it is, don’t expect understanding. -the same rules don’t apply to everyone - I saw one of our best workers fired for being late when they were struggling with a new baby at home, while there were others who were consistently late w/ zero explanation and zero consequence -you can’t take management at their word -with the benefits being pretty fantastic, employee turnover was beyond anything I’ve ever seen. The people I worked with were experienced, well-mannered and hardworking; but we were treated as if we were completely disposable. It was frustrating to be almost always training a new person. It would have been easier on everyone to have the same people around. But, if you didn’t get fed up and leave, you stick around a run the risk of eventually getting fired. -there’s a weird feud between the specialty departments and ER, it’s uncomfortable and I never saw anything done to dissuade it.

From our Hospital Director in Indianapolis: First let me thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. In review of the details described above, I am hopeful this may not be a reflection of the current state of affairs at MedVet Indianapolis. We have worked diligently over the past year to improve the workplace and foster a culture of fun, collaborative, and engaged teams. We have promoted stress relieving activities in the hospital, improved communication through monthly one on one meetings with all clinical team members, had hospital wide culture discussions and action plans, and many more. It is in my opinion that the hospital has come a long way in combating turnover and providing a workplace all of our team members enjoy coming to each day. While fostering this culture, there is a level of accountability on both the leadership team and the healthcare teams to arrive to work in a timely manner. While of course there are circumstances that we would never hold against team members, some mentioned above, there are other patterns that must be privately discussed. As I stated previously, it is my hope and thought that this review does not describe the current state of MedVet Indianapolis. I would invite you to speak to me first hand to review our intentional plans for making MedVet a place that anyone would want to work. I can be reached at the hospital or by email, Nathan.Harling@MedVet.com.

Pros

The staff at the Commerce MedVet have been very supportive and helpful with teaching me the skills I was previously lacking. I got my first feline jugular blood draw and I was also given great tips about IV catheter placement.

Cons

I have no cons, the staff are very welcoming and if you want to learn they want to teach.
