Pros

The other staff members were supportive and good to work with. I learnt a lot about how the postal system works and how to work quicky whilst under pressure. I also had a good relationship with my direct manager as we worked well together, depsite the pressures of the job.

Cons

I was expected to work past my hours without pay (minimum wage) on a regular basis. Pay was minimum wage despite large responsibilities such as being expected to lock up the premises and being responisble for the contents of the safe (thousands of pounds). Staffing levels were continually too low and the whole job was far too much for one person to handle on busy days this meant mistakes were inevitable which would leave a mess to be cleared up in my own time. The lack of staffing also meant that large queues for the customers which tended to make them unhappy and likely to complain. There were many ridiculous rules and regulations which were continually being added to without consultation of how they would affect the staff. The computers and till system is antiquated and continually breaking down. Post Office management from outside the branch were only interested in sales figures and keeping minimum staffing levels - I felt that couldn't care less about how I was treated as long as they got what they wanted. I also experienced other, far more serious issues whilst working at this branch, but did not raise them at the time as I did not want to lose my job.

Pros

None . It is commonly regarded as an avaricious and shoddy employer at the bottom of the bottom end

Cons

10 % staff discount is meaningless , as prices are alredy 20 % higher than a real supermarket , and the quality of food is appalling at McColls compare to the major supermarkets .
