Pros

-you have the option to work from home or an office or hybrid work Working with the New York State health system has been a mixed experience. On the plus side, the mission of helping New Yorkers and being part of public health work is deeply meaningful. The job offers strong job security, a stable benefit package including pension and health insurance, and generally decent work-life balance when the workload allows. Some teams are very supportive, flexible, and respectful of time off. Overall, this can be a solid place to work for someone who values stability and public service, but it’s not without challenges and will depend a lot on the department culture you encounter.

Cons

- you need an accommodation for extra breaks and bathroom breaks -The bureaucracy and rigid processes can make day-to-day work feel slow or frustrating, and experiences can vary widely depending on your specific unit or supervisor. Honestly, just get what you need to get from here and move forward 👍

Pros

Had a few really exceptional coworkers

Cons

One reason I was hired was to bring in new ideas and work approaches; however, when I tried implementing anything new, some of the “old school higher-ups” would balk and were never open to anything new or better. My management just looked the other way and didn’t support me. As for training, I wasn’t offered much in the way of onboarding other than being told to read a lengthy “standard operating procedures” document. No real opportunities were offered to shadow anyone so I could learn in real-time. A typical work week was 60+ hours and often stretched to 70+. It was exhausting and demoralizing. The job was not sustainable and I’ve never been more relieved to be done with a place. I cannot recommend Maximus as a place to grow your skills or to give your time. Turnover seems to be relatively high at Maximus and there are far better places to work.
