Pros

I worked with some cool people. You also get 19 PTO days and 5 paid holidays off a year. Trust me you will want to use every single one of them. Maxim does have promotional opportunities for people who stick it out for 1.5 to 2 years.

Cons

Where to begin. Please review this information carefully before applying for Maxim. I worked at Maxim for 1 year as a recruiter. This job will 100% take over your life and you will have more stress working for this company than you have ever endured in your life. When I put in my two weeks it was the second happiest day of my life. The first being the day I got married. Being on-call is the worst thing in the world. If you are on-call any nights Monday- Friday you will NOT get paid. They roll the office phone to your personal cell phone and you will get multiple calls throughout the night and are expected to come into work at the same time the next day. I would work 7:00AM to 5:00PM Monday-Friday and every week you would have to be on-call at least once. Some nights I was on-call and the phone would wake me up 5 to 10 times a night and I wouldn’t get any sleep and then I was expected to come in the next day and crank out a ten hour day. If you are on-call over the whole weekend you will probably get at least 50 to 60 calls all weekend and you will only get paid 100.00. During the weekend you will have to sit at your hose and be by a computer the whole weekend to book shifts in our system. Maxim Staffing is a nurse staffing agency. I would say 90% of agency nurses are the bottom of the barrel nurses that are not good enough to work at a facility. Most of our nurses treat us horribly. Maxim tells us that we have to just work with them because as long as they make money with the nurses working that is the ONLY thing the account manager cares about. If you go to your account manager and tell him or her that your nurses are yelling at you or being rude to you he or she will just say you need to handle it differently because all they care about is keeping nurses working. Account managers make big commission off nurses working. The way that Maxim makes its money is by paying nurses lower than the average salary for nurses and they charge facilities higher that their competitors. Maxim tells facilities that we send the best nurses to facilities which is a lie because we can’t offer what other agencies can. When I tell a nurse how much we can pay them most of them laugh at us and say I am going to call another agency that will pay me more. This causes tons of turn over because our nurses see how much our competitors pay and they will jump ship to another agency. If I was a nurse I would never work for Maxim Staffing. As a recruiter with Maxim you will get paid 15k a year less than the average recruiter will make. You will get very little commission and you have to split it with the other recruiters in the office. When I was working for Maxim I made the majority of the sales in our office and I had to split all my commission with recruiters that were not performing. This company breaks numerous labor laws and has been sued by multiple recruiters to get lost wages back. Maxim will settle with the recruiters because they want less bad publicity than they already have. While working your 10 hour day you will not be given any breaks and you have to eat your lunch at your desk. If the phone rings for you while you are eating you will have to answer it and handle the call while your lunch sits next to you for sometimes 30 minutes. I would not wish this job on anyone and I honestly believe that this company is going to go bankrupt if they don’t start treating employees better. This company is not competitive with other agencies. Treat employees better and 95% of them won’t quit in the first year and find something better.

Cons

1. High stress / constant urgency * Healthcare staffing often means call-outs, last-minute schedule changes, unhappy families, and scrambling to fill shifts. 2. Heavy phone and email volume * Much of the day can be reactive rather than proactive. 3. Limited flexibility * Often requires strict office hours (commonly 8–5), which can be hard when balancing kids and school pickup schedules. 4. Emotional burnout * Working with patients, families, and caregivers can become emotionally draining over time. 5. Staffing shortages = pressure * If nurses/caregivers call off, coordinators are often responsible for solving the issue immediately. 6. Can feel repetitive * Scheduling, documentation, follow-up calls, and compliance tasks can become routine. 7. Compensation may not match stress level * Depending on market/location, pay can sometimes feel low compared with workload.
