      Salary is 25 to 30% percent less than Ph.D. researchers in other German universities. Located in a small city with not very good connections to airports

      Pros

      Freedom to work on your own project. Excellent travel support to attend conference, workshops, visit other institutes. doing research on cutting-edge subjects

      Cons

      This is a research institute and should not compare with a university environment, students should be faster. The students should work very independently and there is no much help from senior people.

      * MPII is filled with smart people. The conversations are usually great and you get to learn a lot.

      The salaries for working students are some of the lowest amongst research institutes.
